Sudan: Long-horn Cattle (Ankole-Watusi)
This breed of cattle (Ankole-Watusi) is native to Sudan and South Sudan, the open savanna transition zone on the edges of Sahara. The horns of these bulls can reach 8 feet (2.5 meters) tip to tip! The breed is prized all over the world for being hardy and able to survive with limited water and food, but here in Sudan it’s actually native. Just like other cattle, these are trad. ed at the cattle market in the border of Kordufan and Khartoum states. Pictures don’t really describe how surreal their horns look like up close and personal.
