Suriname: Anjoni
Anjoni is where the road ends in Suriname – it’s in the heart of the country and to continue deeper into the interior one needs to switch to a boat. So it’s a port city of sorts – lots of boats large and small and very hectic – minibuses arriving and unpacking, women washing clothes, kids waving, and stalls selling local snacks and food , fresh fish and handmade paddles.. The boats used are dug-out so-called korjaal boat, used to reach the Upper Suriname River and the Amazon interior.
