Suriname: Paramaribo – Historic Old City
Paramaribo is the capital of Suriname and it’s historic center is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its colonial wooden architecture and religious buildings. Besides the catholic cathedral (see post 8), where else will you find a historic synagogue standing side by side with a historic mosque! Then there is the Independence Square with the Presidential Palace and flags, the 17th century Zeelandia fort, and the Palmentuin park with huge palm trees reaching out into the sky.
