Syria: Damascus – Citadel of Damascus
The citadel is one of the key historic attractions in Damascus being by far the largest structure in the old city and dating back to 11th century. Unfortunately, it is not open for visitors. But just walking around the impressive stone walls towering above you gives a good feel of how immense it is. Plus, what’s even more interesting is observing the motions of daily city life around it (as long as you stay clear from pointing your camera at the military checkpoints). The citadel is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
