Taiwan: Baxian Caves (Caves of 9 Immortals)
Million of years ago the ocean carved out natural sea caves of the cliffs. As the land got uplifted, the caves went up. Fast forward to today and you get 9 large typical-looking sea caves except they are high above the ocean and you need to climb up and hike up to them. One of the caves is a major archaeological site and prehistoric pottery was found there. Sadly (I guess), most of the caves have been made into temples and now crowds of people mob the place and various Buddhist statues smile and point at you from everywhere. The place felt very kitchy, but who am I to judge….
