Tajikistan/Gorno-Badakhshan: Beginning of the Pamir Highway
The Pamir Highway or M41 as it is known is perhaps one of the iconic road-trips in the world, going through the high Pamir mountains range in Tajikistan. The three tallest snow-clad mountains dominating the horizon are Communism Peak (recently renamed to Ismail Somoni Peak) at 7495 m (24590 ft); Lenin Peak at 7134 m (23406 ft); and, Peak Korzhenevskoi at 7105 m (23310 ft). Didn’t get to climb them this time but perhaps when I come back.
