Tanzania: Ngorongoro Crater – Wildlife

It’s totally insane when you can have all the wildlife of the Ngorongoro Crater all to yourself – lions lounging in the open grass, wildebeest and zebra grazing all around, hyenas traversing, gazelles jumping around, warthogs wobbling in the mud, and solitary male buffaloes looming annoyed and threatening. We also saw a couple of male hippos violently fighting. Plus rhinos and rare small cats (worthy of separate posts). Ngorongoro has the highest concentration of wildlife in Africa, as well as highest per capita concentration of predators. There are around 7000 wildebeest, 4000 zebras, 3000 gazelles, 6000 hyenas, 300 elephants, 25 black rhinos, 55 lions, not to mention countless others.
