Tanzania: Ruaha NP – Bush Hyraxes
Bush hyraxes may look like wired rabbits or big mice or marmots, but they are actually closely related to elephants and manatees. Similar to elephants, hyraxes develop small tusk teeth. These small mammals live in groups around rocky formations and the species common in Ruaha National Park is a bush hyrax aka yellow-spotted rock hyrax. Quick runners, they are commonly spotted on top of rocks, sunning themselves, before disappearing in their holes.
