Tanzania: Ruaha NP – Hippo Pool
Game driving at the vast Ruaha National Pro we can across a small pool with about a dozen hippos lounging actually outside the pool in a sandy bank (not a common site, as hippos are usually under or in the water during the day). There even was a small baby running around. Eventually they all got up and jumped into the water. While appearing fat and immobile, hippos can actually run quite fast and outrun a human on the ground, not to mention kill a human in the water (in fact, hippos are the number one animal human killer/maimer in Africa).
