Tanzania: Serenegeti NP – Serengeti Plains
If you enter the vast Serengeti National Park from the east, the first area you encounter is the Serengeti Plains – endless flat savanna, that is typically the last to receive the seasonal rains in the late fall/early winter (and thus the location of the wildebeest migration at this time). But grass is already starting to shoot though the parched ground and the wildlife is here in hundreds and thousands – herds of zebra and wildebeest, giraffes, antelopes, birds. And the most spectacular African landscapes imaginable! Just on the first game drive through the park it was a complete smorgasbord of animals – zebras, wildebeest, giraffes, lions, cheetah, hippos in a pool, Thomson’s and Grant’s gazelles, topi and hartebeest antelopes, and even smaller guys like rock hyraxes and even a field mouse.
