Tanzania: Serengeti NP – Wildebeest Migration
A spectacle of a lifetime – the great wildebeest migration in Serengeti – is a sight to behold. The animals move in a fairly predictable circular route through Serengeti and Masai Mara following the seasonal rains and green grasses. The numbers are truly staggering – 1.5 million wildebeest, 750 thousand zebras, and thousands of Grant and Thomson gazelles, elands, and buffalo. Predators like lions, leopards, cheetah, hyenas follow the migration closely on the flanks and the back. Crocodiles await at river crossing. And while the predators take a serious toll on the migrating antelopes, their sheer numbers and reproductive capacity keeps them going and growing every year anyway.
