Thailand: Bangkok – Wat Pho Temple
Wat Pho (aka the Temple of the Reclining Buddha) is perhaps the most famous, most holy, most prominent, and one of the oldest temples in Thailand. Wat Pho existed well before Bangkok was established as a city, it’s also considered the birthplace of the traditional Thai massage. The temple grounds are massive (over 80k square meters) and the buildings are truly spectacular – with 91 small chedi (stupas) and 4 massive one, incredibly decorated with gold and flowery motives. The biggest attraction in the temple is the golden reclining Buddha – the figure is 15m high and 46m long – made of plaster and then guided. The temple grounds also have the largest collection of guided Buddha statues in Thailand, many manicured gardens, and the school of Thai massage.
