Thailand: Bangkok – Wat Traimit (Temple of the Golden Buddha)
This temple houses the world’s largest statue of Buddha made out of gold. The statue of a seated Buddha is nearly 4 meters (12 feet tall) and weighs 5.5 tons. The body of the statue is around 40% pure gold, the head from chin to forehead is 80% pure gold, and the hair and the topknot are 99% pure gold. At today’s gold prices, the statues is around 300 million dollars worth of gold. The statues is at least 300 years old. Aside from Buddha and gold, this is a beautiful three-level temple where you can see fantastic decorations as well as good views of the old town.
