Tibet: Gyatsola Pass & Tibetan Plateau
Gyatsola Pass is the highest pass you go over on way to and from Everest, it’s over 5248 meters or 17825 feet, i.e. higher then the Everest Base Camp. The pass has thin air and you can hardly stay here long without getting a splitting headache and running out of breath from just walking. Around you – is a high elevation desolate Tibetan plateau – nothing grows here, it’s cold, empty, and frozen. Only occasional frozen streams and yaks. The pass also marks the boundary for the Jomolungma National Park (which is a Tibetan name for Everest)
