Tibet: Karo La Pass & Glacier
Continuing west along the Tibetan plateau, you come to an even higher Karo La Pass (La means “pass” in Tibetan). Well above 16,000 feet, this pass is almost a 1000 feet higher then the highest mountain in the continental US. And this just the pass, the lowest point! All around you is a stunning mountain scenery of the Karo La glacier overhanging above you and the valley in front. A stupa stands at the base of the glacier and colorful prayer flags covers the pass. Another stunning blue lake lies just a couple kilometers along the road.
