Tibet: Khampa La & Yamdrok Tso Lake
As you drive from Lhasa (which itself is at 12700 ft / 3700 m elevation), you go over the Khampa La Pass at a whopping breath-taking (literally, because of the altitude sickness and no oxygen) highly of 4800 m / 16200 ft via a twisting road. At the top, you can enjoy the panoramic views and take pics of the unique Tibetan dogs and colorful yaks. Descending down just 400 meters, you get to the views of the stunning Yamdrok Tso Lake – a massive superblue body of frigid water this high on the Tibetan plateau. It is one of the three sacred lakes in Tibet.
