Tibet: Rongpu Monastery

Rongpu monastery is the highest monastery in the world, located just 3km before the Everest Base Camp with equally stunning views along the valley. The monastery is quite simple and very old – just a couple small building built into the mountain wall with hundreds of square stupas and many shield rock inscriptions. Inside, there are several caves with small temples burning the yak butter lamps. Imagine being a monk here – far away from any civilization, food, above 5k meters elevation, in freezing temps – but with the view of Mount Everest 24/7!
