Timor Leste: Maubara Fort
The small square seaside Maubara Fort was built by the Dutch in 1785. The fort was depending the Dutch possession against the encroachment from the Portuguese. The fort never saw any serious action and in 1851 became peacefully Portuguese when Portugal traded their possessions on the island of Flores for Dutch territories on Timor. The fort is quite well preserved, and the corner towers are graced with canons. Opposite the fort, the Portuguese established a customs house.
