Tonga/Vava‘u: Neiafu – St Joseph’s Cathedral
The main cathedral on Vavau is the St Joseph’s Cathedral, a beautiful whitewashed Polynesian-style church standing on a high ground above the harbor and visible from many points in town. Additional steps and staircases lead even higher from the street to the church. Sunlit during the most of the day, the cathedral is truly stunning and beautiful. And if you come here during the service – it explodes with a loud chorus of singing. The cathedral gets packed with men and women, dressed up in their traditional outfits, singing in union – a true pacific island experience.
