Tonga/Vava‘u: Utu’la’aina Lookout
Another spectacular lookout is on the far eastern side of the main island – the Utu’la’aina Lookout. Translated literally, the single word actually means “from sunrise to sunset the sun has no hiding place’ in Tongan, a perfect description for the wide bay and cliffs that enjoy sunlight all day long on one side or the other. Supposedly, this was the favorite lookout point for the Tongan monarch, Queen Salote. The colors of the beach and water below are simply stunning, and fregatebirds are soaring high above you.
