Tunisia: Sousse Medina

The city is Sousse lies 140km south of Tunis and its medieval walled old city Medina is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The city was founded in the 9th century by the Aghlabid dynasty. A huge fortress – Kasbah – surrounds the city with high walls, towers, and massive entrance gates. Inside the wall lies a medieval city with row streets, covered souqs, and several mosques – the Great Mosque of Sousse dates to 851 AD, while the Bou Ftata Mosque is from 840 AD. Exploring the narrow cobblestone streets is fun and the city has a much less touristy feel then the Tunis Medina.
