Turkey: Fetthye – Lycian Rock Tombs

Fetthye is often associated with the Lycian Empire, a Greek civilization that ruled over this stretch of Turkey’s coast around 200 BC. The Lycians were never members of a specific country, but rather a confederation of independent city-states, which included Telmessos – the name form Back then the city’s name wasFetthye has a lot of Lycian attractions – from a theater to several tombs scattered around the city, but the most famous are the rock-cut Tombs of Amyntas, cut into the side of a mountain. The impressive looking and absolutely massive tombs were built in 350 BC. It’s a steep climb up the hill to get to the main tombs and you most likely can have them all to yourself.
