Turkey: Harran – Markets
While Harran clay houses where the main attraction in Harran and mostly a tourist trap, we accidentally came across local fruit and vegetable markets – super simple and authentic, they were packed with produce from Harran Valley and surrounding areas. These are mostly farming communities and almost 100% Arab ethnically (Syrian border is just a few km south). Peaches, persimmon, grapes, tangerines – we loaded up here with kilos and kilos of good stuff with prices being almost insanely low. The market was local and zero tourist, and everybody was super friendly and welcoming.
