Turkey: Termessos

Only 17km away from Antalya but over an hour long drive on a super twisting and jaw-dropping mountain road lies the ancient city of Termessos. The city was the capital of the kingdom of the Pisidians, never conquered or pacified by either Greeks or Romans. The entire city sits on a high mountain plateau, all above 3000ft/1000m above sea level. The mountain vistas and panoramas are stunning here. Although we arrived a bit too late to see the main sites of the lost city – agora and the theater (it’s a long hike further up the mountain), we did manage to explore the ancient tombs that most most people pass by – massive burial tombs richly engraved with images of lions and various gods.
