Turkmenistan: Ashgabat – Ertugrul Gazi Mosque
The Ertugrul Gazi Mosque, was built by Turkey in 1998 and reflects strong cultural ties of Turkey and Turkmenistan. The mosque was constructed in the classical Ottoman style, resembling Istanbul’s Blue Mosque and named after the father of Osman I (founder of the Ottoman Empire). The mosque is quite spectacular, although not very original – it features a white marble exterior, four 62m-high minarets, and a large central dome. can accommodate up to 5,000 worshipers.
