Turkmenistan: Ashgabat – Magtymguly Pyragy Park Complex

This is one of the newer attractions in Ashgabat that only opened in 2024 – the Magtymguly Pyragy Park Complex, dedicated to the 18th-century Turkmen poet, philosopher, and spiritual leader Magtymguly Pyragy, whose 300 year anniversary was last year. The complex sits on the outskirts of the city at the foothills of the Kopetdag Mountains. The main monuments is a 60m-high statue of the poet, and a bit before that are 24 sculptures representing international poets and philosophers from countries from around the globe – China, Turkey, France, Germany, India, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Belarus, Georgia, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan and so on (not much of rhyme or reason in the selection really).
