Turkmenistan: Ashgabat – National Museum of Turkmenistan
National Museum of Turkmenistan is the largest and one of the most significant museums in the country, fully documenting and pressing the history of Turkmenistan from the prehistoric times and all major events throughout centuries. The museum itself is a grand marble and gold building with a massive flag of Turkmenistan flying on the square in front of it. Inside are three round floors surrounding five columns representing the country’s five provinces. The museum houses over 500,000 exhibits across seven permanent galleries, divided into three main sections: Natural History, Science, and the President of Turkmenistan. Not to be missed are archeological finds including Items from ancient sites like Nisa, Merv, Gonur – Neolithic ceramics, bronze vessels, and ivory rhytons (horns), vast collection of Turkmen carpets and rugs, huge fine arts collection, and finally the presidential section full of various present the three Turkmen presidents have received from foreign countries and leaders.
