Turkmenistan: Derwaza Gas Crater at Night

At night, Derwaza Gas Crater is at its most spectacular – you are in the middle of Karakum desert, hundreds of miles away from any civilization or settlements, and the crater is the only source of light. But what a source it is! The fire illuminates the desert floor and the heat can be felt dozens of meters away. The lightshow is at its most vivid and startling and bizarre.
