Turkmenistan: Kow Ata – Traditional Turkmen Wedding

While at Kow Ata, we go lucky to witness a traditional Turkmen wedding (or at least one part of it, since it’s a multi day affair with hundreds of guests). This entire process is Calle toy. The two things that truly stood out were the bride’s dress and the car’s decoration. The bride wore a traditional red silk dress, heavily embroidered with silver or gilded pendants, believed to protect against evil spirits (such dress may weigh up to 20 kg due to all the beadwork, layers, amulets, and charms. A head-covering cape was worn except to show her face for photographs for a brief moment. And the wedding car was also all full of gold decorations that were very “loud”
