Turkmenistan: Mary

Mary is the fourth largest city in Turkmenistan, originally founded as a Russian military outpost in the Karakorum Desert. Unlike Ashgabat, It doesn’t have any of white marble skyscrapers and any color cars are allowed to drive in the city. It has more of a provincial feel, except for several centrally located administrative buildings, a large mosque, and a MIG-29 monument.
