Turkmenistan: Turkmenbashi – Port & City

Turkmenbashi was formerly know as Krasnovodsk and all locals still call it by that name. It is a port city on the eastern shore of the Caspian Sea in western Turkmenistan and major hub for Turkmen oil and gas, with a large oil refinery and port facilities handling maritime trade. The city is rather small at only 73k people, but the port facilities are quite large as this is also the terminus of the railway.
