Turkmenistan: White Marble City of Ashgabat
Ashgabat – the city of white marble. It’s bizarre and unreal. It made it to the Guinness book as the most marbled city in the world (and Turkmenistan doesn’t even have it’s own marble, all comes from Italy). Massive oil and gas reserves pay for all the construction of marble palaces as regular apartment blocks. Plus all the golden monuments. No private property, all government built. It’s Las Vegas meets Alice in Wonderland.
