Ukraine: Kherson
Kherson is the major city and port in the southern Ukraine, founded in 1778 on the orders of Catherine the Great of Russia. One of the first buildings was Church of the Catherine, around which the Kherson Fortress grew, now a sprawling park with monuments and founders. The rest of the city is fairly drab and boring, some churches and some historic buildings, but overall kind of dilapidated and rather falling apart.
