Ukraine: Klevan

A small town west of a Rivne, Klevan dates back to the mid 15th century when the construction of Klevan fortress put this location on the map. The fortress, set high in the hill above the Stubla River, took over 15 years to build and its ruins today are the main attraction here. The fortress and castle are completely abandoned and unrestored, which adds even more to its “back in time” feel. Next to the castle is the Church of the Nativity from 1777. A little further, and also completely abandoned is an awesome and grand Catholic Church of Annunciation from 1630, completely surrounded by brick defensive walls and also with a stand-alone belltower.
