Ukraine: Parhomivka – Svyatopokrovska Church

Svyatopokrovska Church (Church of the Intercession of the Mother of God) is an absolute gem! Located in a tiny village in the middle of nowhere in Kiev Oblast, this massive cathedral complex is essentially Ukraine’s version of Gaudi-like masterpiece. The grand church was built in 1903-1907 by the Russian industrialist and philanthropist Victor F. Golubev in an unusual Art Nouveau style with elements of both classic Russian religious architecture as well as Byzantine and even Gothic mishmash. Several of the mosaics were created based on sketches by famous Russian artist Nicholas Roerich. The church seems completely out of place on the outskirts of a tiny Ukrainian village.
