Ukraine: Zaporozhya – Autohistory Museum Faeton

The most incredible museum of the automotive history and a massive collection of retro antique cars, mostly Soviet, can be seen in Zaporozhya. Coincidentally, Zaporozhya was also the home for the ZAZ car manufacturing plant, that produces the iconic Zaporozhet car. Zaporozhets was the smallest and the cheapest of the Soviet-made cars, with engines in the trunk and absolutely lack of engine power (they were butts of every possible car joke in the USSR). The Faeton museum has every single model of Zaporozhets on display, including the 1,000,000th Zaporozhets, that was produced here! The museum is absolutely amazing and the total collection here is huge – all Soviet Ladas, Volgas, and limousine Chaikas, huge display of trucks, a nearly complete collection of every possible motorcycle and scooter, police and emergency vehicles, military machinery, and so on. There are also Soviet and German guns from WWII (a separate hall), and a new hall dedicated to Soviet-era memorabilia (audio recorders, radios, vodka bottles, communist posters, and even moonshine-making apparatus). The collection of antique foreign cars is also impressive – from the nearby socialist GDR and Czechoslovakia to France and USA. And there is more cars and tractors outside! Totally awesome! And you can even sit for a photoop inside a small open-top Zaporozhets!
