USA/CA: California Ground Squirrels
While the Glass Beach was a disappointment, it was full of little furry California ground squirrels, very friendly and inquisitive and seemingly everywhere. Sometimes called “beach marmot”, these rodents look more like marmots then squirrels – they are larger then squirrels, furrier and fatter, and stick to the ground and coastal rocks. Most importantly, they live in burrows, that they dig all around the beach, deep in the wet sand. And they hibernate in winter!
