USA/CA: Kings Canyon NP – Grants Grove

Grant Grove used to be its own national park and then later got incorporated into Kings Canyon National Park. It is not part of the canyon, however, but rather the large grove of massive sequoia trees. Giant sequoia aka Sequoiadendron giganteum is the largest tree on the planet by volume. They grow to an average height of 50–85 m (164–279 ft) with diameters ranging from 6–8 m (20–26 ft). Record trees have been measured at 95 m (311 ft) tall. The third largest tree in the world – General Grant Tree – grows here. There are also many other humongous trees as well as some stumps from the trees that were fallen in the last century.
