USA/CA: Tule Lake Wildlife Refuge
Hello, California! And the very first stop after the northern border crossing became the Tule Lake Wildlife Refuge, a prime spot to watch waterfowl and birding in general, as it lies along the major migratory route for millions of birds. It’s one of the oldest wildlife refuges in the country, established by President Coolidge in 1928. And while now is completely off-season, we still spotted dozens of geese, ducks, ibises, and many others. There are special bird hides built on the shore to sit for hours and wait for the elusive birds to show up, which would have been super exciting….. or not!
