USA/UT: Canyons of the Ancient National Monument

Southwestern Colorado is packed with archaeological sites, and Canyon of the Ancients National Monument protects several ancient pueblos from around 1000 AD. The best preserved is Lowry Pueblo, one of the most northerly known pueblos, probably dating back to 1060 AD – a small village of about 100 people with house ruins and a large ceremonial kiva platform – a circular-shaped stone structure with stone shapes resembling human bodies.
