USA/NY: NYC – 9/11 25th Anniversary – Tribute in Light
The Tribute in Light is lit every year in the night of September 11 to commemorate the victims of the attacks. Seeing it up close and personal is almost like seeing the real towering buildings that were destroyed – the twin beams appear as massive, glowing columns piercing the night sky like solid architecture made of light. The lights sit atop the Battery City parking garage and are distinct 48-foot (15 m) squares arranged in a grid to mimic the footprint and orientation of the original Twin Towers. The lights include 88 high-powered xenon light bulbs (7,000 watts each). The beams project up to 4 miles (6.4 km) into the night sky, generating the most powerful shafts of light ever projected from Earth. But coming close to them, you can see them in the same shot with iconic NYC landmarks like Trinity Church, or St Paul’s Chapel, or downtown skyscrapers, and ultimately the Wall Street road sign!
