USA/UT: Canyonlands NP – Island in the Sky Unit
Another must-see national park in Utah is the Canyonlands National Park. The Island in the Sky unit offers some of the most breathtaking and surreal panoramas in the American southwest – endless landscape of jagged red rock sandstone canyons and tower and buttes – an absolute paradise of erosion. The Island in the Sky unit is a broad and level mesa (or tabletop plateau) the northern section of the park, between the Colorado and Green rivers. Here, you are mostly looking down from the edge of the plateau and onto the White Rim, a sandstone bench 1,200 feet (366 m) below the Island. The river are yet another another 1,000 feet (305 m) below the White Rim. It’s all totally like the surface of Mars!
