USA/Florida: : Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park
Hello Florida! On mission to check off another bucketlist item – swim with Florida manatees – but first stop was Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park. Located on the west coast of Florida, this is one of the best places in the world to observe manatees – in cold winter months they are being fed here as they come to springs for warmer waters. The biggest manatees in the world – weighing over 3000 pounds/1000 kg – have been seen here. But the park is more then manatees, it displays pretty much all other animal and birds species that are native but rare to Florida – Florida panther, bobcat, black bears, loads of fish in the water (there is also an underwater observatory), river otters, alligators, snakes, pelicans, flamingos, wood storks, America Eagles, and much more. But the main attraction is clearly the manatees swimming close to shore and coming up for air once in a while.
