USA/NM: Lake Lucero

To the west of White Sands is an ancient Lake Lucero which is dry now and has large selenite crystals literally growing, up to 3 feet (1 meter) long. Weather and erosion eventually break the crystals into sand grains that are then carried away by the winds, forming the white sand dunes.
