Vanuatu: Espiritu Santo Island – Champagne Beach Water Music Singsing
This is the largest island in Vanuatu, lying in the New Hebrides archipelago in the central part of the country. After we landed on the spectacular champagne Beach, a totally different cultural performance awaited us – women performing water music. Women, dressed in traditional palm-leave skirts and standing waste deep in water, slapped, slammed, scooped, waterbombed and pounded the waves, producing rhythmic explosions and drumming sounds, insanely coordinated and musical. Absolutely unique and traditional, this type of singsing performance can only be witnessed in Vanuatu.
