Vanuatu: Loh Island – Bat Cave
In the center of the Loh Island, in the heart of a jungle, there is a limestone cave full of endemic bats. It’s about a 40 min hike from the coast. Multiple cave opening are overgrown with tropical vegetation and limestone stalactites adorn the entrance. Inside, there is a large hall with more cave formation and a bay colony in the center of the ceiling. Standing underneath it, you have the bats literally fly just inches from your head on their way in and out of the cave. Locals have used the cave multiple times to shelter and hide from cyclones that often pummel the islands.
