Vanuatu: Tanna Island – Road to Mount Yasur Volcano
The main attraction of Vanuatu is the Yasur Volcano, continuously active for hundreds of years (it was the light from the volcano that drew Captain Cook to the island back in the 18th century). The ash plains surrounding the Yasur volcano on Tanna Island in Vanuatu are surreal – desolate, windy, grey, sulphur and ash poisoning the air, and a mountain exploding with eruptions every 10-20 minutes. And this is just on the way to the crater… We drove in open bed trucks with the landscape around us looking more Mars-like then Earth.
