Venezuela: Caracas – Paseo Los Proceres

Leading from the Military Academy Parade Plaza is a monumental Paseo Los Proceres aka Walkway of the Heroes – a huge complex of monoliths, fountains, statues, stairs, walls, and so on. The carved high-relief panels detail major independence battles, the four main bronze statues are of Bolivar, Sucre, Miranda, and Urdaneta – Venezuelan liberators and national heroes. Further along there is a whole smorgasbord of statues – real people and mythical and allegorical figures – from indigenous female legends to heroes of the anti-Spain independence.
