Venezuela: Los Llanos – Hato El Cedral

One of the main reasons for coming to Venezuela was to explore the vast expanses of the seasonally flooded Los Llanos in the south of the country – an amazing biome of Amazon tributary floodplains and flat savanna. Spanning roughly 53,000 hectares (130,000 acres), Los Llanos is both a place of livestock ranches and as an eco-tourism destination world-renowned for its dense concentrations of wildlife. Hato el Cedral is one of Venezuela’s most famous working cattle ranches (hatos) and wildlife reserves. It’s a place to explore the amazing landscapes, packed with caymans and capybaras, and thousands of not millions of birds.
