Venezuela: Los Llanos – Horseback Riding

Since it’s a working sprawling ranch, horseback riding here is a must and is one of the best way to explore and experience the landscape. The horses go through all the marches and water, often going quite deep in the water. stunning scenery all around – vast expanses of grassland savanna and wetlands, myriads of birds in the ground and in the sky. The horses used throughout the ranches are local Andalusian-descended Criollo breeds, specifically adapted over centuries to the brutal extremes of the Venezuelan plains. They are comfortable crossing deep, muddy marshlands, navigating dense gallery forests, and swimming across flooded river channels. Because they live alongside large capybara herds, caimans, and cattle, they are notoriously calm and steady. Just try not to think about the giant anacondas that are lurking in the muddy water!
